Mobile Android gaming sux. We both know it. To overcome my radiation-induced boredom, I decided to explore which Sonic games could be played on Android devices – only one, to my disbelief: Sonic Superstars Generations is playable on any Android device; so once again we pose the question “how many more Sonic games are playable on Android?” Now we know I wasn’t lying when I said there were none; one was definitely Sonic Generations — although not necessarily its completely 3DS counterpart!

Stay tuned and I’ll show you how. In my previous video on this topic, I dismissed streaming services altogether as unsuitable for playability; otherwise, you might as well consider Sonic Prime to be part of Canon Sonic. Had they been considered viable options instead, my video wouldn’t only feature titles that run natively on Android devices within its availability window.
Since all these Sonic games can be enjoyed on Android devices, we will start with smaller titles.
Starting small but building to big. I mentioned previously that Master System versions of Sonic 1 and 2 can be played via Android emulation; however, it has come to my attention that there exists a native fan Port for these titles on Android, featuring widescreen native controller support as well as many customization options – this new life breathed into these older games is thanks to creative Arya remaking them! Uncovering Sega Sonic’s Fun and Frustrations
As before, everything I mention in this video will also be listed in its description below. Next is Sega Sonic the Hedgehogs as store brand Knuckles makes her debut through Mame. Although 100 playable, however the controls don’t translate perfectly from trackball-controlled original game to joystick gameplay and cause unplayability; but technically runs well for Waku Waku Sonic Patrol as well.
Sonic Popcorn Shop and Sonic the Fighters were unfortunately unplayable in my experience; while there may be ways of playing them, I had trouble even getting them listed as ROMs; in particular, Sonic the Fighters caused seizures similar to Song Colours Ultimate within my previous attempt; somehow I completely missed these advanced titles, which is surprising given my fondness of them;
Advanced Games Are Conquering the Gaming World
Play Sonic Advance games like battle and Sonic pinball party on Android without issue using one of many GBA emulators available on this platform; I would personally suggest My Boy because it just works flawlessly. Furthermore, recently it came to my attention that there’s actually an official port of Sonic Advance 1 from 2013 available via APK which no longer appears on Play Store – just be warned it is very choppy and in Japanese!
No longer being able to play it. Talking of 2D titles or 2.5 days titles, Sonic rival games come to mind as 2D titles or 2.5 days titles that I grew up with; regardless of your feelings for these games PPSSPP is the emulator you need for Android playback of these titles.
Provided your chipset is powerful enough, these computers run seriously and sound incredible – the iconic race to win song being one of my personal favorites from this franchise. Emulators: Use Gear and Box64 emulators on Android to run Windows Apps seamlessly.
An individual emulates Windows and runs Sonic Generation files using Exegear, an emulator for Android. I initially stated that Exigear was unsupported and extremely costly; however, upon further consideration I realized you no longer have an option to pay for it anymore (it has since become obsolete unless you need APKs), while Box 64 could offer similar functionality with no added costs; additionally it’s extremely straightforward and simple – simply downloading both applications is enough!

It will take you to an article providing more detail on setting this up, so while my failure of Sonic Superstars Generations running on my phone caused its breakdown, through experimentation I managed to get Sonic and the fallen stars running at full speed on Android device at practically full speed – opening up new possibilities for fan games available only on PC to be played as well.

I will be honest: I am running out of games to discuss on this device. You could try your luck at Java Games which can be played via J2ME – such as Sonic Golf, Sonic Cart and Sonic Unleashed from Sonic Unlit; these ones can be quite fun. And don’t forget Sonic and SEGA All-Stars Racing which already has native Android ports available for them both – out of 101 titles across 31 years, 89 are playable on Android; that is enough about Sonic superstars for now.
